Have you ever been in a season where you felt the need to make new changes but didn’t know exactly how to do so? You knew for sure that you needed to leave that place, space, or relationship, but you kept holding on for dear life until you came to the end of yourself.

If you are currently in that season of life, where you know without a doubt that you need to make some life changes, then this is the blog for you.

Sometimes we stay in situations for longer than we need to and end up jeopardizing our future plans and dreams.

I hope that this blog post will help you to navigate some decisions more effectively about your life and to do what’s necessary in order to keep moving forward with your life’s goals and visions.

Because whether you want to believe it or not, your environment has a lot to do with how you progress forward for better or for worse.

Are you still holding on to people, places, or things that you know don’t serve you anymore? Please feel free to add to my list, or ask your questions or concerns below. I would be happy to help you!

“If ever I feel like I have to make a choice about letting go of people, places or things that no longer serve me and my purpose here on earth, I have to be firm in my decisions. Otherwise I risk not living a fulfilled life.”

Your Intuition Is A Guide

How many of us have said to others or complained to others about environments, such as work, or people, or even things, that we know we need to remove from our lives, and yet we feel stuck or afraid of making the necessary changes?

Why is that? We are aware of what doesn’t serve us anymore. But we choose to keep dragging dead weight around with us until we finally realize we have to stand firm and trust our intuition.

Many of us don’t even realize that our environment, whether it’s a physical space, our proximity to others, and our attachment to certain things, can and does affect our lives tremendously.

Your body knows when it’s being tested to its limits. It does keep a score. Your anxiety levels go up when you have to return to that toxic work environment. Or, your reactions become limited when you’re around a certain person. Or you know you need to stop “binge drinking” a bottle of wine every night because it’s affecting your body.

We are fully aware. But it’s the lack of actions that we refuse to take that keeps many of us disconnected from truly living a fulfilling and purposeful life.

Why Is It Hard To Let Go

When we know there are things that we need to let go of, but can’t find the willpower to do so, it means that the very thing that’s holding us hostage has become a stronghold. When something is a stronghold, it means that our willpower to help us to navigate decisions easily isn’t effective anymore when this is in place.

We have to first come to terms with our unwillingness to make the necessary changes for the better. The way to do that is to acknowledge that we do have this problem, and that we do need to take more serious and less passive actions towards making the necessary changes that we need.

For instance, I am fully aware of my dissatisfaction with my work environment. I know that my health and well-being are being jeopardized while here. I know that I’m not doing well here, yet I still stay without making bold decisions to leave.

I become stuck, and if for any reason I have placed my livelihood on a job, then that would mean I have allowed that job to control my life. That job is now in the driver seat of my life and is deciding my very fate.

That tells me you have developed a stronghold for that specific problem you find hard to let go of. Now it’s going to take much more of your willpower to walk away from what no longer serves you.

How To Break A Stronghold

Breaking a stronghold from your life will take you admitting that this situation is not beneficial to your life and journey.

Self-actualization is actually the first key step. You’re admitting fully that this is a problem that needs to be addressed. I can’t allow fear in any form to keep me hostage in any situation that is no longer beneficial to my life.

I then need to put a solid plan into place about how I plan to move forward from this situation I know I do need to let go of. Planning helps to also reduce the fear of actually doing it. When you see something concrete in place, it makes it much easier to take an action step forward.

Depending on what it is, for instance, the work environment, I can start planning my exit strategy and follow through so that I’m not thrown off or intimidated by my action steps.

I have the plan in place, and I can move forward with confidence that I know I’m making the right decision not only for my immediate goals but for my long-term goals and well-being.

Being Confident In Your Decision

Have you ever made a decision that you know was the right one to make but then you keep second-guessing the decision afterwards? You know without a doubt that it’s a decision you have to make. But after making it, you keep reminiscing about that decision nonstop, on repeat in your mind.

That is a huge hindrance to your walk moving forward. It’s actually dragging the past into the future with you. It keeps you stuck and stagnant even after you have left the very place, relationship, or thing.

When you have made a decision that you know is for the best, stop second-guessing that decision and move forward with your life. Keep your focus on your life’s goals and dreams moving forward and refuse to look back and hinder your life moving forward.

Keep A Routine Check

A decision is not just a one time thing and its done. Its going to be a revolving door of constantly looking at areas in your life that needs to be addressed and decisions that need to be made about leaving things that no longer serves you.

Always keep an audit of places that need to be tended to at all times. Because we know life happens to all of us. We might have formed new habits, relationships and work environments ever so often. That means auditing your life as you go on your journey is a habit that you need to constantly practice.

I like to call it dead weight. Imagine dragging dead things around with you strapped to your legs. They can’t help you because they are dead and they will only keep you dragging yourself around for nothing.

Always surround yourself with things that gives you life. That would be relationships, environments and things that feeds positivity to your spirit. That’s the only way to navigate life and balancing how you choose to love yourself and also to show up for yourself each day unapologetically.

I hope that these 5 tips will help you to navigate well every area of your life that you have been struggling to let go of, and will give you the confidence to move forward with only the things that serve you well.
